Two of the oldest parishes in Noble County reside in Avilla – Immanuel Lutheran Church, which was established in 1844, and St. Mary of the Assumption Church, which was dedicated in 1848.
Historical treasures in Avilla include St. James Restaurant, which was founded in 1878. At that time, the business also included a hotel. Provena Sacred Heart Home, which is now Ascension Sacred Heart Village, was established in 1896.
In 1965, Avilla Motor Speedway opened and gave area drivers the opportunity to compete in various divisions and classifications. The track closed in September of 1995, much to the disappointment of its drivers and fans.
